Germany Applauds Trump’s Iran Ceasefire Extension
"Germany welcomes the extension of the ceasefire between the United States and Iran," German officials declared in a formal statement, characterizing the development as a crucial moment for achieving diplomatic conflict resolution.
"Tehran should seize this opportunity," the statement emphasized, reiterating Berlin's demands that Iranian representatives participate in scheduled Islamabad discussions, abandon nuclear weapons development, and cease hostile actions toward Israel and regional neighbors.
Responding to Iran's insistence on Western sanctions relief, Berlin clarified that any punitive measure reduction hinges on Tehran's concrete progress toward negotiated settlements.
"If a comprehensive agreement can be reached, the German government is prepared to work, in close coordination with partners, toward gradually easing existing restrictive measures," the statement specified.
However, German authorities cautioned that additional sanctions may follow should Iran execute threats targeting Strait of Hormuz shipping operations, a vital artery for worldwide energy transport.
Chancellor Friedrich Merz's administration stressed that Strait of Hormuz passage must remain unrestricted without fees or impediments, pledging German support for maritime security operations following successful diplomatic agreements.
"Once a lasting end to hostilities has been achieved, the German government, together with its partners, stands ready to contribute to the free navigation of the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international law and in compliance with national procedures," the statement confirmed.
Germany additionally committed to pursuing diplomatic channels aimed at securing permanent resolution to southern Lebanon hostilities.
